I'm Sorry I Love You is certainly a nice drama to watch. The storyline centres not only on boy-girl love but parental love as well, and perhaps this is what makes me like this drama so much.
The protagonist of this drama, Che Moon Hyuk is an orphan who was abandoned and adopted by a foreigner and was brought all the way to Australia. His life over there wasn't a bit happy as he was abused by his foster parents and he left home at a young age of 10 to strive on his own, living a life of poverty and delinquent-like. He had a girlfriend he really loved but that bitch left him and married someone else for money's sake. Because of this and that, he took 2 bullets in his head. One was removed, however for the second bullet, it was too deep in his skull, and there was no way to extract it out. Che Moon Hyuk had only a few months to live.
At the very start of the drama, it was already told directly that Moon Hyuk was unlike other orphans who hate their own parents for abandoning them. Rather, he believed that his parents were having a hard time and decided to give away their own child for his sake, hoping that the child would live a better life under the care of someone else. With this thought in mind, he really hoped to see his parents, to work hard and buy them nice clothes and food. However, all these thoughts were torn apart when he found out his mother was actually a famous actress and has a son who is a singer. Poverty? Not even close. Feeling betrayed, he pledged revenge and got close to the mother and son.
In episode 4, when the mother accidentally broke a few plates, and her feet were injured by the broken shards of glass, Moon Hyuk carried her away from those shards and bandaged her bleeding feet. However, the woman was all shaken that a stranger was at her house and kept crying for his son - Choi Yoon. Instead of feeling grateful, she complained to Yoon that Moon Hyuk is a scary man and has no idea what he was doing at her house. Moon Hyuk, having heard all these, was of course heart broken. As he was picking up those broken shards, he held one so tightly that his hand was bleeding profusely. He was tearing. It wasn't because of the pain he felt in his hand but the pain he felt in his breaking heart.
There were many times when Moon Hyuk felt like stopping everything he was doing, for the sake of his loved one - Eun Chae. However, the story couldn't carry on if he stopped revenging that soon. In one scene when Eun Chae was hugging Moon Hyuk, telling him that he wasn't alone anymore, this hit him greatly as he cried, embracing Eun Chae back. I think at that moment he thought that someone was finally there for him.
In the later episodes, when he found out that Yoon wasn't the mother's own son, he was shocked and at this point, he was forgiving his mother already. He hugged his mother so tightly, it was heart wrenching for me! Skipping to the main point, when he realised the truth his mother didn't abandon him like what he had thought, all the images of him plotting and suffering came flashing back. They were a sense of guilt and regret. He requested his mother to cook him lunch and while eating, he was crying uncontrollably. The taste of the food cooked by his mother, the taste he longed for so long. It was this scene that tears just came flowing or flooding.
"If there is an afterlife, I want to be mother's son again. A bright and outstanding son whom you can be proud of. I love you, mother. I really love you, mother. In my entire life, there wasn't a moment I didn't love you. I really love you, mother. Thank you for giving birth to me." GAH, just typing this makes me want to cry! From this, we can tell how much he yearned for his mother, how much he missed her and how much he loved her. Even though he was having his revenge, there wasn't a time he hated his mother. All he ever wanted was someone/his mother to love him.
Moon Hyuk as a character, I think he is someone who cherishes relationships a lot. He values and loves the people around him and would do anything for them. Just like how he shielded his ex-girlfriend from the bullets, how he would forgive his mother no matter what, how he would always place Eun Chae ahead of himself. And of course, a son who is always seeking for his mother's love.
Beautiful.
